MUMBAI: Western Railway (WR) has achieved the best ever goods loading in September. “It achieved a loading of 6.94 million tonnes during the month. The loading is 6% more than the loading of 6.54 million tonnes during the corresponding month of last year,” said WR chief spokesperson Sumit Thakur.
“The cumulative loading between April and September was around 35 million tonnes. WR achieved best ever average loading of 4,673 wagons per day in September, surpassing the earlier best of average 4601 wagons in March 2019,” he said.
The best ever loading in a single day was achieved on September 30 with 5685 wagons, as against 5,429 wagons on September 10. Container loading too was at its best, with 1871 wagons /day in September as compared to the previous best of 1846 wagons/day in April. WR has also achieved best ever single day loading in Jumbo rakes (47 rakes) on September 28.
This success in loading was achieved due to continuous monitoring at various levels by WR general manager Alok Kansal. From March 23 till October 2, commodities weighing more than 1.4 lakh tonnes have been transported through 582 parcel special trains, which mainly included agricultural produce, medicines, fish, milk etc. The revenue generated through this transportation has been Rs 47 crore.
