MUMBAI: Slaughter and sale of meat in Vasai-Virar was banned on Gandhi Jayanti. Buying meat will also not be possible on Sunday (World Animal Day).
An order issued by Vasai Virar Municipal Corporation (VVMC) banning slaughter and sale of meat on October 2 and 4 was handed over to slaughterhouses and meat shops late on Thursday.
The order, issued on September 30 and signed by deputy municipal commissioner Vijaykumar Dwase, said the ban was in keeping with Animal Welfare Board of India’s September 2019 advisory on banning slaughter and sale of meat on Gandhi Jayanti and World Animal Day. Civic chief D Gangatharan could not be reached for comment.
