MADURAI: Several devotees worshipped at the big temples in Madurai and other southern districts of Tamil Nadu on Tuesday morning when they were opened after a gap of more than five months.
Devotees were seen standing in queues as early as 5am though many temples allowed them in only after 6.30am.
At the Sri Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple in Madurai, devotees’ body temperatures were checked before letting them in. People who didn’t wear mask were not allowed to enter the temple.
People aged above 65, pregnant women and children below ten years were not allowed.

The temple administration had asked the people to leave their cellphones at home, as the locker rooms were not functioning.
Several devotees offered worship at Thiruparankundram Subramaniswamy temple, Alagarkoil temple, Tiruchendur Swamy temple, Palani Lord Murugan temple and other major temples.
