CHENNAI: The number of fresh Covid-19 cases in Tamil Nadu were seven short of 7,000, pushing the tally to 2,20,716. The state reported 77 deaths that took the cumulative toll to 3,521.
Despite showing a steady decline in fresh and active cases, Chennai continued to be the worst hit district. The state capital reported 1,138 fresh cases and 21 deaths in the last 24 hours while its neighbours Tiruvallur (474) Chengalpet (448) and Kancheepuram (362) together recorded 1,284 cases. These districts reporter 1,344 cases on Sunday.
The region together reported 2422 cases and 39 deaths. Other northern districts to record high incidence include Tiruvannamalai (267), Ranipet (273) and Kallakurichi (238).
Cases continued to increase in southern and western districts. Coimbatore reported 313 cases.
Southern districts to record high number of cases include Tuticorin (349), Virudhunagar (338), Theni (280), Madurai (249) and Kanyakumari (239).
As many as 5,723 patients were discharged in the last 24 hours. At the end of the day, 54,896 patients were still under treatment.
