The Maharashtra government announced extension of the general lockdown until July 31 with an aim to contain the Covid-19 surge. The notification issued by the state government has also restricted inter-district travel between municipal corporations within the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) to that for office purposes and essential activities like medical reasons.
* Update by ANI at 9.50am: Single-day spike of 48,916 positive cases and 757 deaths in India in the last 24 hours. Total Covid-19 positive cases stand at 13,36,861 including 4,56,071 active cases, 8,49,431 cured/discharged/migrated & 31,358 deaths, health ministry.
*The BMC on Friday sealed the 50-year-old Navjivan housing society in Mumbai Central after 60 Covid-19 cases were reported from its 18 buildings. Civic officials said sealing individual buildings was not working as people were not following the home quarantine protocol.
*The state on Friday crossed the 3.5 lakh mark for Covid-19 cases, of which over 1.57 lakh were added in 20 days — on July 4 there were just over 2 lakh cases. The state also breached the 13,000 mark for Covid-19 deaths.
*While the BMC on Friday started testing its healthcare and frontline workers for Covid-19, a rapid blood test done among both medical and non-medical staff at the state-run JJ group of hospitals showed that one in 10 of those surveyed have had previous exposure to the novel coronavirus.
*Mumbai doctors have begun seeing the worrisome combination of Covid with rain-related ailments such as dengue, malaria and leptospirosis. All tertiary medical colleges have seen lepto-Covid, dengue-Covid and malaria-Covid cases in the past few weeks
