As the Central and state governments allow phase-wise relaxation in curbs to get the life up and running again following over two months of lockdown to prevent the spread of Covid-19, we bring you the latest updates from Delhi.
*Update at 3.30pm: For the first time, a record number of more than 4,20,000 Covid-19 tests conducted in a single day. With 4,20,898 samples tested in last 24 hours, the Tests Per Million (TPM) has increased to 11,485 and cumulative testing to 1,58,49,068, ANI reports quoting Govt of India.
*Update at 2.30pm: Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday said people of the city, his government and the Centre together have attained victory over Covid-19 but the fight is not yet over. “Two crore people of Delhi, Delhi government and the Centre together have attained victory over coronavirus but it would not be correct to say that the fight is over,” Kejriwal said. *Update at 11.36pm: The positivity ratio in Delhi is today at 5 per cent. The situation is satisfactory, but we have to be prepared, says Delhi health minister Satyendra Jain.
*Update at 10pm: Single-day spike of 48,916 positive cases and 757 deaths in India in the last 24 hours. Total Covid-19 positive cases stand at 13,36,861 including 4,56,071 active cases, 8,49,431 cured/discharged/migrated & 31,358 deaths, ANI reports quoting health ministry.
*Of the 15,475 beds reserved for Covid-positive patients, the latest data shared by the health department showed, 79% were lying vacant on Friday. More than 63% of ICU beds with ventilator support, which was difficult to find when the infection was at its peak in June, was also vacant.
*The positivity rate in Delhi, which was recorded at 5.7% on Thursday, reduced further to 5.3% with only 1,025 of 19,138 samples testing positive in 24 hours. According to the WHO guidelines, if the positivity rate was 5% or below, then the disease spread was under control.
*From July 11-19, fresh cases were being reported in the range of 1,000-2,000 consecutively. The number of fresh cases reported on July 19 stood at 1,211. On June 20, the fresh cases count had dipped to 954, and it increased the next day to 1,349.
*Since Tuesday, the number of fresh cases have been recorded in excess of 1,000 again. Thirty-two fatalities have been recorded in the last 24 hours, according to the Delhi health department bulletin on Friday.
*Delhi recorded 1,025 fresh coronavirus cases on Friday, taking the tally in the city to over 1.28 lakh, while the death toll from the disease rose to 3,777, authorities said.
