CHENNAI: DMK on Tuesday protested against the ‘’inflated electricity bills’ received by power consumers in Tamil Nadu.
Though Tangedco and power minister P Thangamani had clarified that there was no scam in the calculation of the power bills, DMK functionaries, MPs, MLAs and cadre protested in different parts of the state wearing black dresses and holding black flags. Party president M K Stalin staged a protest in front of his home.
“During the Covid-19 lockdown, several people lost their job and income. The government must have lowered the power tariff at this time. But, instead, it pressurised people to pay their four months bill at one go. When questioned, Thangamani lied by stating that there was no increase in power tariff. Has not the minister seen what people say about the power bills they have received,” Stalin said in a Facebook post.
The government should lower the tariff and provide some relief to people, said Stalin.
DMK parliamentary party leader T R Baalu protested outside his office at Tambaram. Some party MLAs and cadre participated.
