MUMBAI: After recording significant rain activity all throughout last week, the weekend in Mumbai reported only light rainfall with one or two occasional heavy rain spells.
While in the 24 hours ending July 19, 8.30am, the IMD Colaba and Santacruz observatory reported 9.4 mm and 7.7 mm of rains. There was no rain recorded by the observatory in the nine hours ending 5.30 pm on Sunday.
The India Meteorological Department meanwhile on Sunday said that Mumbai and Thane from July 20-23 can expect the same trend to continue with very light to light rains expected.
The total rain reported so far by the IMD Colaba observatory has been 1411.8 mm and IMD Santacruz observatory has been 1635.7 mm. In case of IMD Colaba the rains were 402.7 mm above normal and IMD Santacruz it was 605.4 mm above normal.
Lakes supplying water to Mumbai have still not reported any significant rain activity.
In the 24 hours ending 6 am on July 19, the total water stocks in all the seven lakes was 3.91 lakh million litres or 27.03% of the required water stocks. Last year the quantum on the same date was almost double and stood at 7.43 lakh million litres or 51.37 % of the required stocks.
