P Jeyaraj and J Beniks
MADURAI: The bail plea of special sub-inspector (SSI) Paldurai, who was arrested in connection with the custodial deaths of P Jeyaraj and his son J Beniks at Sathankulam, was dismissed by the Tuticorin principal district and sessions court on Friday.
The counsel appearing for Paldurai stated that the cop had been originally working at Thattarmadam police station and had joined on deputation at Sathankulam police station at 11.30 am on June 19. The counsel submitted that Paldurai had gone for a vehicle check and was not present at the police station when the incident occurred.
Jeyaraj’s wife Selvarani filed an intervening petition stating that Paldurai was involved in the brutal attack on her husband and son at the police station and therefore he was also responsible for their murders. The counsel appearing for Selvarani objected to the bail stating he is an influential person and there is a possibility for tampering the witnesses or absconding.
Public prosecutor for CBI S Vijayan submitted that custodial interrogation of the accused persons is necessary as the investigation is only at the initial stage.
Considering the public prosecutor’s submission, Tuticorin principal district and sessions judge N Logeswaran dismissed the bail petition by stating that the court was not inclined to allow this application.
Earlier this week, inspector Sridhar and sub-inspector Balakrishnan filed their bail applications before the Tuticorin principal district and sessions court. Sridhar’s bail petition was dismissed on July 13, and Balakrishnan’s was dismissed on July 15.
