As part of Karnataka government’s lockdown plan to contain the spread of coronavirus all essential shops in Bengaluru Urban and Rural districts, except pharmacies, to remain shut.
*While India’s Covid-19 case doubling rate of 21 days is a silver lining to the dark clouds, Karnataka’s trajectory has set alarm bells ringing. The state’s current doubling rate is 10 days, second after Meghalaya and highest among big states in the country.
* Most of the restaurants and small eateries in the city have temporarily shut down because of the state government’s baffling rules on lockdown-time business hours, and this has created food-supply shortages for construction and factory workers.
IAS officer to monitor SOPs in BBMP areas
*With Covid-19 numbers galloping in Bengaluru, the government on Thursday informed the high court that senior IAS officer G Kumar Naik will oversee implementation of the April 17 SOPs in BBMP areas, including directions pertaining to containment zones. Kumar Naik is the social welfare department’s principal secretary.
*The court directed Naik to submit a report by July 24 on the measures initiated by him.
